More October Releases

As it turns out, my article covering all products coming this October (read it here) was inadequate, as our beloved tech giants have sprung up with enthusiasm more than expected over the last 2 weeks or so. We’re talking about releases (and big ones at that) from Samsung, Google, Microsoft, Apple – you name it! This month might just be as crazy as the last one. I’ll take this one product at a time:

Samsung Galaxy S III Mini
This product was rumoured for some time, but the wait is over. On October Courtesy techblog.weblineindia.com11th, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S III (Samsung’s current flagship phone) in fact, has a little brother, or sister, if I may, with the name ‘Mini’. The specifications of the S3 Mini are still not clear, as Samsung has only announced the phone, but not put it up anywhere for folks to see yet. Nonetheless, with a mini version of their flagship, I’m sure users will be more than excited!

I, for one, disliked the large screen that the S3 had to offer, but I loved the rest (minus ICS, Android’s version 4.0.x). The S3 mini will come with a smaller screen, Jelly Bean (Android’s version 4.1.x, or 4.x as some call it) and the top notch features we see in the Samsung Galaxy S III. This product is due to hit the shelves by the holiday season.

Apple iPad mini
Apple already held a media event last month, and at the event, they announced the long-awaited iPhone 5 (read about the pros here and the cons here) amongst other things, but as Apple claims in their new invite (yes, it’s finally Apple Invite for October 23rdofficial), there’s more yet to come. This could finally be announcement of the iPad mini, which, according to me, will be a huge success for Apple. The iPad is already a prodigy, but making it smaller (therefore more mobile) and cheaper (therefore more affordable) wihtout losing quality (knowing Apple), the iPad mini can be nothing but good news.
It was rumoured before, that the iPod Touch would be EOLed (End Of Life-ed) to make room for the iPad mini in Apple’s inventory. Fortunately (or unfortunately), the iPod Touch was not sacked, but with the launch of the iPad mini this year, we might be looking at the last iPod Touch that Apple will ever create. Nonetheless, there’s no point in worrying about the undecided so soon, so let’s celebrate the coming of the iPad mini sometime in the next 3 weeks (2nd November is my guess), with an event queued for October 23rd.

Windows 8 Products
Windows 8 may be releasing on the 25th of October, but unlike Apple, Microsoft isn’t normally tight-lipped about its product until its final presentation. This gives them the advantage to openMicrosoft Surface Tablet up their stores for pre-orders of their products well in advance. This time, the product in question is the long awaited Microsoft Surface Tablet – Microsoft’s flagship tablet. The Surface Tablet comes in two variants, and the version shipping with Windows 8 RT is up for pre-order as we speak (though the lowest end tablet is already sold out in the US). You can watch the advertisement for the same here! The surface tablet is set to release on the 26th of October.
Also, with Microsoft releasing Windows Phone 8 OS on October 29th, Nokia, HTC, Samsung and the rest won’t wait for long before they can finally release their line of Windows 8 phones.

iTunes 11
If you haven’t read about this already, you can read it in my previous article hereiTunes 11. iTunes 11 is the biggest jump for iTunes since its inception, and let me tell you that it will not leave you disappointed (unless, of course, you’re less tech-savvy and don’t like change). This, of course, isn’t a product to buy, but it too will be available later this month. In fact, you can expect it to release by the last week of this month.

The New Google Nexus Phone
The Google Nexus phones are Google’s flagship phones, and Google has released one very regularly. With each Nexus phone, Google picks up a new company each time, and this time is no different. It seems that Google might go with LG this year for the new phone, but nothing is certain, as Google likes to be tight-lipped about their flagships as well.
With wach Nexus phone, Google utilizes Android to the fullest, making what many consider to be the best Android phone for its current version (Jelly Bean in this case). Furthermore, Jelly Bean is Google’s best iteration of Android, making this phone a real beauty. It is safe to assume that this phone will be released either by the end of this month or by mid-November.

So October turned out be really exciting after all. I can’t wait for the winter to pass and see which company emerges victoious, though it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S III is already the winner, being voted as the best smart phone ever created. Nonetheless, this Christmas, we have a plethora of goodies to ask our parents to buy for us (I know I’ll take advantage of that!).
